How to write a brief autobiography

At times it is necessary to compile a brief autobiography for work or for personal reasons. Such information may be required for a resume, application, personal site. The autobiography for such purposes should be brief, interesting and relevant. Briefly describe yourself is very difficult. Think about the information you need to specify, create a draft and make any necessary changes.These tips will help you write your autobiography.

1 Identify the target audience. Think about who will read your autobiography. Such information will be published on the personal site, listed in the personal file at work or application? Identify the target audience to choose the style and overall tone. Examples: Scientific works: official style, interesting language. Personal site: informal, personal and playful tone. Personal affair: the golden mean between formal and informal styles.

2 Review the enclosed requirements. Read the guidelines that should be taken into account. Contact the responsible person and specify the requirements. Observe all the rules to make a good impression on the readers. Sometimes an official text is required on one page, and sometimes one hundred words are sufficient without specific rules. Take into account the information requirements that you must specify. These tips will help you write your autobiography.

3 Make a list of your achievements. Short biographies often indicate their achievements or awards. Make a detailed list of your academic degrees, awards, or accomplishments like participating in a citywide marathon. Review the list and select the most significant achievements that relate to the purpose of the autobiography and affect your readership. Avoid contradictory topics like political views and religion. For example, the sentence "My love for our Lord Jesus Christ is the determining factor in decision-making" will be superfluous if you are applying to a large company whose activities are not related to religion. Do not specify the achievements of school times and earlier periods. Most often people are interested in knowing what you have achieved in adulthood (after 18 years).

4 Identify your interests. Make another list, indicating in it professional and personal interests. Revise the list and select the items that will interest the target audience. If in addition to the experience and achievements indicate their interests, then the reader of the autobiography will see the full picture. Examples: Dr. Ivanov has been studying the issues of obstetrics for a long time and shows genuine interest in the subject of procreation. Benjamin is working on the development of innovative bicycle wheels with a team of like-minded people. Thanks to enthusiasm for mountain bikes, he personally conducts tests of new wheels together with colleagues.

5 Do without general phrases. Do not list personal characteristics to supplement your biography. Most people indicate in the autobiography the same qualities. Try to interest readers with unique information. Personal qualities can always be found out during the interview. Do without such words:

trustworthy;

the faithful;

exceptional;

purposeful;

communicable kind.
